CADIZ APPOINTS TWO NEW MEMBERS OF THE BOARD

Santa Monica, CA -- Cadiz Inc., (Nasdaq: CLCI) is pleased to announce the appointments of Tony Coelho and Timothy Shaheen to the Company's Board of Directors.

Coelho has built a successful career in public service and private business. As a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Coelho became the first-ever elected Majority Whip, the third-ranking member of the House leadership. Representing California's Central Valley, he served in senior positions on the Agriculture and Interior Committees and specialized his legislative talents in agricultural and water issues. After leaving Congress, Coelho served as managing director of Wertheim Schroder & Company, Inc., an investment banking firm in New York, and served as president and chief executive officer of Wertheim Schroder Investment Services.

Coelho continues to devote much of his time to public service. In 1994, President Clinton appointed him chairman of the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities. He was also selected co-chair of the U.S. Census Monitoring Board and served as the U.S. Commissioner General to the 1998 World Exposition in Lisbon, Portugal. Coelho also serves on several non-profit boards and is the vice president of the Epilepsy Foundation of America.

In addition to his extensive commitment to public service, Coelho serves on the boards of several prominent national corporations, including two companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

"We are delighted to welcome Tony to the Board," said Keith Brackpool, president and chief executive officer of Cadiz Inc. "His knowledge of agricultural and water issues on both the state and federal level, together with his experience in the investment community, make him an excellent addition to the Cadiz Board."

Cadiz has also appointed Timothy Shaheen to the Board of Directors. Shaheen has served as president and the chief executive officer of Sun World International, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Cadiz, since 1996. With annual revenues exceeding $100 million, Sun World is a leading innovator in the research, production, distribution and promotion of fresh produce.

"Since assuming leadership of Sun World, Tim has been extremely successful in identifying and implementing innovative strategies to further diversify and expand its agricultural operations," said Brackpool. "His appointment to the Board further reflects the importance of agriculture to Cadiz."

Coelho and Shaheen join Cadiz board members, Dwight Makins, Keith Brackpool, Murray Hutchison and Mitt Parker.

Founded in 1983, Cadiz Inc., is a publicly held agricultural and water development firm. With its subsidiary, Sun World International, Inc., Cadiz is one of the largest vertically integrated agricultural companies in California. The Company owns significant landholdings in Southern California with substantial underlying water resources.
